An Exclusive Interview with Wedding Stationery Designer, Shaun Hudson
Beautiful, bespoke wedding stationery is undoubtedly one of the most important elements when it comes to styling your special day. From welcome signs, to name cards, to dinner menus, your stationery is the final finishing touch that ties your aesthetic together. We sat down with one of our favourite local designers, Shaun Hudson, Founder of Signed by Shaun, to find out how the process works, as well as an exclusive insight into his top stationery trends for 2022…
Can you tell us a little about how the process works between you and the bride & groom-to-be?
I like to keep the process quite simple with minimal stress on the couple as I understand how complex wedding planning can be. The couple can either choose one of our collection pieces or opt for a bespoke design which I ensure is tailored to the couple and suits the style of their day. To facilitate this, we ask the client to send through mood boards and inspiration pictures which also helps me understand the couple and what they’re hoping to achieve with their stationery. I keep the conversation open and usually have multiple emails back and forth which ensures both parties are on the same page. Some couples are very apologetic and are worried about being fussy and picky, however this actually helps me a lot! It speeds up the process by making the brief a lot clearer. After the fun part is done, I tend to get just as excited as the couple waiting to see the designs come to life, paired with other incredible business' in the wedding industry.
Why do you think it is important for couples to have custom stationEry for their special day?
Bespoke stationery provides a unique feel to the wedding and showcases something that hasn't necessarily been seen before. I personally think it gives guests a breath of fresh air when walking into a room with bold signage or table settings that really provide a wow factor. Custom stationery also allows the bride and groom to portray their personal style and bring it to life through the use of stationery. We love the bold colours and luxe black stationery at the moment!
What are some ways that you can still have beautiful, memorable stationery without blowing your budget?
Beautiful and memorable stationery can definitely be achieved for every budget. Keep it simple, sometimes simple can be more! You don't HAVE to go for the fancy arches and on-trend styles. Gather inspiration and add your own magic to it.
Where do you draw most of your inspiration from?
I try to seek most inspiration from international/European weddings. Pinterest, wedding magazines etc. I feel as though there are lot of traditional/unique weddings out there which you can pull apart and create something amazing from.
What are your favourite three stationery trends or ideas that you’re loving for 2022?
I’m loving the odd shaped signage for seating charts and welcome signs! Unique lettering and handwritten fonts paired with bright and bold colours is also a favourite.
